Our Story
Built the Right Way, From the Start
PCJ Construction was founded by James Tonry and Ryan Greenwood, who first met during their apprenticeships and went on to launch Precision Carpentry & Joinery in 2007. What started as a shared interest in carpentry and a hands-on approach to learning the trade has grown steadily over time. From early joinery work and a single extension project, the business has developed into a construction and restoration company delivering new builds, renovations, heritage work and commercial projects across Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.
Both of us came through the trade properly — learning on site, working across different trades, and building a solid understanding of how everything fits together. Early on, we were taught the importance of doing things right, paying attention to detail, and taking pride in the work. That's something that's stayed with us and still shapes how we approach every project today.
The PCJ name has always stood for precision, and that hasn't changed. We now work alongside our sister company, Precision Carpentry & Joinery, which produces bespoke windows, doors and furniture from our workshop. Having that level of in-house knowledge means we're able to maintain a consistent standard across the whole project.
Over the years, we've also seen how things can go wrong — when communication isn't clear or responsibility gets passed around. That's why we keep things straightforward. If something needs sorting, we deal with it. We take responsibility for the job as a whole and keep clients informed as the project moves forward.
A lot of our work now comes from repeat clients and word of mouth, which we don't take for granted. For us, it's simple — do the job properly, be easy to deal with, and leave every project in a better place than we found it.

Our Site Team
Consistent teams from start to finish
Alongside our in-house team, we work with a trusted group of subcontract carpenters, groundworkers, and labourers who regularly work on our projects from start to finish. Having consistent teams on site helps ensure reliable workmanship, good communication, and high standards throughout the build.
Our Approach
We start by understanding what you're looking to achieve. We'll visit your property, talk through your ideas, and give a clear view on what's possible and how we would approach it.
Once the scope is clear, we move into pricing and, where required, design development. You'll receive a detailed quote setting out what's included. Any changes are discussed and agreed before moving forward.
Before work begins, everything is planned and coordinated. This includes scheduling, ordering materials, and organising trades. You'll receive a clear programme so you know what's happening and when.
Work is carried out in line with the agreed plan, with regular checks on progress and quality. We stay in touch throughout the build and will raise anything that needs input at the appropriate time. Sites are kept organised, safe, and presentable throughout.
Towards the end of the project, everything is reviewed to ensure it meets the required standard. Any outstanding items are addressed before handover. Communication is kept clear and consistent throughout the project — we use Buildertrend to keep everything organised and provide visibility as the build progresses.
